Hi Every One ! Today we are going to see how to do Migration of WebSphere MQ. In this scenario IBM WebSphere MQ version 8 is already installed, configured and running. We are going to install the new version of IBM WebSphere MQ version 9 and Point the version 8 Queue Manager to the new Installation. This blog will help you understand WebSphere MQ version 9 installation as well as migration of Queue Manager from version 8 to version 9.

So, Lets begin !!!

Note: Below steps are performed on AIX Operating System

1) Download the MQ installable from IBM site.

2) Copy the installable to a folder

# pwd

/IBM/software/mq

# ls -ltr

total 1999624

-rw-r--r--    1 root system   1023801581 Apr 03 02:18 IBM_MQ_9.1.1_AIX.tar.Z

3) Extract the tar file

# zcat IBM_MQ_9.1.1_AIX.tar.Z | tar -xvf -

4) Check the version of MQ before installation

# dspmqver

If you face below error while executing above command:

Execute below command

# rmusil -R /IBM/software/mq/MQServer

# mkusil -R /IBM/software/mq/MQServer -F

6) Check the version of WebSphere MQ after installation

# dspmqver -i

7) As the new installation is not a Primary Installation we wont be able to perform any task using this installation. For that we will have to unset the primary installation of the previous MQ

# pwd

/IBM/software/mq/MQServer/usr/mqm/bin

# cd /usr/mqm

# /usr/mqm/bin/setmqinst -x -p /usr/mqm

'Installation1' (/usr/mqm) has been unset as the primary installation.

8) Now set the new installation as the primary installation

# cd /IBM/software/mq/MQServer/usr/mqm/bin

# ./setmqinst -i -p /IBM/software/mq/MQServer/usr/mqm

95 of 95 tasks have been completed successfully.

'Installation2' (/IBM/software/mq/MQServer/usr/mqm) set as the primary

installation.

9) Set the MQ Environment to specify that now Installation 2 should be used for performing MQ related activities

$. setmqenv -n Installation4 -m

$ dspmqver -i
